Job Description
POSITION: Visit Billings Internship
As a destination marketing organization (DMO), Visit Billings is charged with growing visitation at Montana’s Trailhead. Strategies include tourism marketing and sales while supporting programs and projects that will help better position Billings as a competitive choice for travelers. Visit Billings is the leading brand compromised of the Billings Tourism Business Improvement District (BTBID) and the Billings Convention and Visitors Bureau (BCVB) and is managed by the Billings Chamber of Commerce. The mission is to generate room nights for lodging facilities in the city of Billings by effectively marketing the region as a preferred travel destination.
This individual will join the Visit Billings team and help execute day-to-day responsibilities as preparations are made for upcoming citywide event(s).
 Will play a key role in event planning and possible execution of a major travel blogging conference in Billings
 Assisting in communication efforts for stakeholders, tourism partners, and event sponsors
 Drafting and editing copy for newsletters (print and digital) and blogs
 Creating and promoting content via Montana’s Trailhead social channels
 Strengthening e-communication programs for upcoming event(s)
 Partner in tracking media coverage in tandem with the current media monitoring platform
 Assisting with and attending planning meetings for citywide event(s)
 Functions related to convention planning and servicing
 Assisting with visitor facilitation at the Billings Visitor Information Center and via a texting hotline
 All other duties as assigned
 Preferred Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations focus toward a Bachelor’s degree
 Preferred experience in a tourism or hospitality field; Strong knowledge about Billings as a community
 Must be willing to travel via car, train, air, bus
 Needs strong writing, reporting, and creative skills to build copy for leisure and social media interaction with visitors and prospective visitors
 Must be courteous, professional, outgoing, and able to respond to changing priorities
 Pays attention to detail
 Organizational and computer skills required
 Must be an enthusiastic team player, while self-reliant and accountable
 Needs to anticipate work and manage workload well with minimum supervision and instruction
An employee in this class of work performs activities requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing sixty (60)
pounds or less. This person must possess the ability to prepare booth pieces for shipment and set up at tradeshows and
events. The position also demands the ability to lead walking or driving tours. Activities including horseback riding and
boat tours may also be required occasionally. Office is housed in the Billings Chamber of Commerce building.
