The Associate Director will supervise the tutoring of diverse students in the Academic Support Center, assist students and staff, and work closely with the Director of the Academic Support Center to effectively carry out the department’s daily operations, along with developing new tutoring and retention strategies. This position works with all members of the ASC Leadership Team, and tutors to develop and implement workshops, programs, and materials to address students’ academic support needs, such as content area handouts, web pages and online tutorials. The Associate Director participates in meeting planning and collective oversight of ASC operations as a team, deliberating, overseeing, and executing policy and policy enforcement. Management includes the daily activities of the ASC Writing Center including direct supervision of writing and humanities tutors, specialized workshops, faculty outreach, and oversight of all aspects of the ASC Tutoring Program, including CRLA certifications, drop-in, appointment based, embedded, and online tutoring. Collaboration with faculty ensures tutorial methods support classroom procedures as well as with other university departments to share information, triage best-practices for student support, and assist with the marketing strategy to represent the Academic Support Center. Conduct other duties as assigned by the ASC Director. The Associate Director is a full-time, professional position entailing a 40-hour work week.

Education Required:
  • The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in English, Humanities, Education, or a related field and have at least 3 years of experience.
Experience Required:
  • Experience in hiring and training tutors/academic support personnel
  • Experience in supervising student and/or professional personnel
  • Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students
  • Experience working in a learning center, writing center, or similar environment
  • Experience working in a LMS environment (D2L, Canvas, Moodle, or other system)
  • Experience working with at-risk students or students experiencing academic distress
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) including the ability to deliver effective presentations to large, diverse audiences
  • Proficiency in computer applications, especially Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to continued professional development
  • Attention to detail
  • Proven conflict resolution skills
Education Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in English, Humanities, Education, or related field and have at least 5 years of experience.
Experience Preferred:
  • Previous tutoring experience (especially in a writing center or similar environment)
  • Experience with CRLA programing and training
  • Two or more years of instructional experience at the secondary or collegiate level
  • Demonstrated commitment to pedagogy
  • Knowledge of collection and distribution of data to inform practice, improving organizational performance and report preparation
  • Five years of progressive responsibility working in a learning center, tutoring center, or similar environment
  • Knowledge of student developmental and learning theory and practice
  • Knowledge of effective student retention strategies
  • Ability to work closely with faculty and other departments in order to develop and implement academic support programs across the curriculum
  • Experience working with Banner, EAB Navigate, or other CRM system.
