The primary teaching responsibility of the person holding this position will be to provide quality instruction in the upper-level mathematics content courses for the Math Major, the Math Teaching Major, and the Math Teaching Minor programs. This position will also help develop applied math courses in Data Science and Finance for the Math Major program and improve/modify existing mathematics and statistics courses. The secondary teaching responsibility will be to provide quality instruction for a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, including statistics. In addition to teaching, the individual hired will be expected to pursue a research agenda and contribute to the Department, the College, and the University through service. Excellence in teaching is expected, both in the classroom and in mentoring students outside the classroom. The teaching load is 21 credit hours per Academic Year.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Ph.D. or ABD in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline
- Capable of teaching beginning through advanced mathematics and statistics classes
- Demonstrated evidence of teaching experience at the university level
- Willingness to develop and teach online and hyflex courses
- Clearly delineated research agenda
- Experience in and/or strong commitment to teaching General Education courses offered in the Department of Mathematics and working with at risk students
- Willingness to work with other departments and colleges at this university, for example, computer technology, social sciences, biological sciences, business, allied health professions, and nursing
- Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or Statistics
- Experience with teaching beginning through advanced mathematics and statistics classes 3
- Willingness to develop Data Science or Finance upper-level courses
- Experience in computational mathematics 5. Knowledge of computer algebra system (CAS) such as Mathematica, Matlab, Maple, or Mathcad
- Experience in learning management systems such as Canvas, D2L, Blackboard, Pearson MyLab, or Cengage MindTap
- The ability and interest necessary to advance the Department’s agenda in curriculum reform and in online and hyflex education
- University level teaching experience in both online and in-person courses
