The primary responsibility of the person holding this position will be to provide quality instruction in a variety of undergraduate business and accounting courses as part of the City College Business Department. Reporting to the department chair and supervised by the dean of the college, the Tenure-Track General Business and Accounting faculty will also support the mission, purpose, and goals of City College at Montana State University Billings. Responsibilities include teaching up to 30 credits for the academic year of Business Department specific and department-related coursework. The General Business and Accounting faculty will collaborate with peer department instructors to ensure courses and curriculum meet student and industry needs, as well as academic advising of program students, retention, and resource development activities, in addition to delivering courses and teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

Teaching
  • Instructional preparation and teaching of assigned courses in curriculum.
  • Facilitate the learning process that creates a safe non-threatening climate which supports learning across the curriculum.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet program outcomes.
  • Teach up to 30 credits per year online or onsite in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Collaborate with related programs regarding their needs for program curriculum.
  • Support student success including office hours and advising.
  • Improve and refine curriculum and course content to meet the needs of changing student populations.
  • Assess student learning at the course, program, and institutional level.
Service
  • Engage in student recruitment activities.
  • University service including participating in committees and activities.
  • Community service includes participating in community events and volunteer activities.
  • Serve on committees, task force(s), and special projects contributing to the growth of the Program, City College, and Montana State University Billings. Scholarly Activities
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and licenses.
  • Maintain proficiency in teaching and specialty expertise.
  • Attend selected professional development activities.
  • Serve on civic engagement projects.
Education Required:
  • Master’s degree in business or a related field.
Experience Required:
  • Three (3) years of current relevant work experience appropriate to the field of business
Or
  • Three (3) years of teaching business coursework at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Education Preferred:
  • Master’s degree with 9 graduate credits in accounting from a regionally accredited University
Experience Preferred:
  • Experience teaching at a two-year college institution.
  • Demonstrated service within discipline at a post-secondary institution.
  • Educational background in instructional methodology.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching with a Learning Management System (i.e. Desire2Learn, Canvas, etc).
  • Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques to enhance student success

  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Physical Demands

Requires sufficient mobility to work in a college with hands-on programs and operations, operate office equipment, able to lift, push or pull at least 25 lbs. Additional physical demands may include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 4–6 hours of screen time per day.
